Our Dream Home
IT'S GETTING THERE!!!
Our Lot
Soon to be our view from the deck.
Left: The lot looking up towards the street
"The Rock" This is what we called our property. It most likely cost us just as much money to get rid of this rock as it did to make the movie "The Rock". I am not exaggerating.
Blasting - I called it bombing...same thing really. One neighbour down the street thought there was an earthquake, but no it was just us making a bit of noise. Thank you to our neighbours for putting up with us.
Blasting.... Drilling...Excavating...
....Bombing
Footings
After 2 weeks of blasting and 110 truck loads of rock removed from our lot we were ready to put down a foundation.
Foundation
4000 feet of re-bar and 43 cubic metres of concrete we were ready to pour our foundation walls.
If there is ever an earthquake this is where you might want to be. With our luck I will be shelving some books in a library somewhere and Craig will be on the hooks fixing cable.
Don't these structurally engineered walls look spectacular!!!
Framing - Oh, the excitement!!
We can see what we have been seeing on paper for the last 6 months finally take shape.
Other than our driveway being much steeper than we anticipated, all is looking great. We went to the City of Nanaimo and asked for a height variance for our final grade to be 18 inches lower. We won our variance by the skin of our teeth, but hey, we won it!!!
Tricia and Garrett in the Kitchen - this where Tricia has promised three home cooked meals a week for the family...we wonder if we will be able to keep this promise!

Upstairs
We have the two boys rooms plus a walk in closet for each one of them. There is a shared bathroom and a laundry shoot, that I am sure Trevor will enjoy throwing Garrett down.
Basement
We also have a small workshop for Craig and Trevor's bikes.
